Well I got the Archos 7 today from Amazon and here are my first impressions/ a mini review.

First off let me say that I SO wanted to love this device. But coming from the HTC Incredible I am disappointed. Read on...

Formfactor - good
Video - Good
Screen - Okay
Speed - disappointing

I was concerned about Android 1.5 - but that is not much of an issue - Someone has created an image so Google Market works. The real issue is the speed and usability. I STARTED to write this on the Archos 7 and had to stop out of frustration! it is too slow and the screen makes typing too difficult. As I said I REALLY WANTED TO LOVE this - but alas I will have to wait for another (better) Android tablet.

Ping me with questions.

*UPDATE*

I have been using it for a few weeks now and have decided to keep the tablet. The reasons - it is certainly NOT PERFECT, but as an interim solution for a travel video player, mobile internet browsing and occasional games it works. If there was a capacitive 7" tablet with 2.1 out now I would buy and return this. Since this is not the case, I will keep this for a few months and use it until a 'proper' tablet is released. At that point it will go to the kids.

I was under the impression Archos was updating the "7" with 2.1 for July. Is this no longer happening? Is it possible to upgrade from 1.6 to 2.1 with the "7" you have?

My understanding by reading some Archos forums is that they will not be updating to 2.1 - Also I was incorrect - it runs 1.5 NOT 1.6. I have updated my first post to revise my impressions.
