Are carriers and skins hurting android?

Would more people buy or stay with android if they could have a Nexus experience?

First I love android. I've had ipads and iphones but I've had about 7 different android devices from the earliest form of Gingerbread onward. I however cannot stand to use anything other than stock Android. I got used to a lightly modified environment with my first Android tablet and Asus Transformer TF101. While it's honeycomb os was a bit ponderous it worked more or less in a clean manner. I upgraded to a Toshiba tablet which again offered a mostly stock experience. I then bought my first Android phone a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket with Gingerbread. What I found was a mess, inferior Samsung replacement apps, buggy software (it would crash while listening to music and delete all my google play music stored on the device). It made me wonder why I left my iphone 4. I then experimented with custom roms and found the wonders of stock android and even the nightly cm roms were more stable than stock. From there I went to Nexus devices and found what I would describe as the iphone experience on android.

I think a lot of people would stick with android if they could have this experience rather than bloated carrier based phones with "optimized" apps and skins from the manufacturer. I currently own an S4 GPE and would describe it as the best of both worlds. I think a lot of people now simply buy android phones because they seem cheaper (whether they are or not) and are aggressively marketed.

So here's a poll do you think Android would see even greater success in the upscale market in particular of Google or manufacturers made the Nexus or GPE experience more accessible or more heavily marketed?

I know you can replace launchers and apps but I don't think most people want to buy a phone where they immediately have to start replacing and changing everything to make it tolerable.

We need diversity to match each individual consumer.
Plus with all the different "skins" gives you the option to have different animations/features/ and tools without changing an ecosystem.
Simply sign back into google and everything comes back.

Its a win win
