Are custom contact ringtones new on the S3?

I have no idea how long this feature has been present, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't there before.

Was messing with my contact list and you can now select notification tones for each client.

How very useful! That hasn't been a future the whole time has it?

Yes it has always been a feature you have been able to do. I actually took a big risk and flashed my phone back to ICS 4.0.4 VRLG7 stock ROM and the feature is there.

Good to know. I must not have ever noticed it. I thought I had looked in the past as it was one of the features I used to use all the time so I would know who I was getting a message from. Guess I didn't look in the right place or closely enough. Thanks!

I would like to correct myself, in the thread title you mentioned < ringtones > and in your post < notifications > were asked about.
ICS does not allow you to set custom notification tones for each individual contact, that option is new to JB.
My bad for not paying close enough attention to what I read.
