So, mobile security Apps like 'Lookout' and others alike, how much more secure are they making your phone OS and of course personal info or hackers accessing your phone?? Any pros/cons on some of the better security Apps?? Are the free apps actually worth it?

Only if you download from places other than Legit Google Play or Amazon. the issue is overblown.

I have always had Lookout on all my smartphones.

Yeah, I've always used lookout on my previous phones as well (and never had any major problems ) .... Just began to be curious of how much it's REALLY needed, before I start downloading a bunch of apps like in the past without knowing if I really need them....

The antivirus people are going to go all Chicken Little on you. They'd make good politicians. But take your apps from Google Play or, in some cases, direct from the authors web site like the Swype Beta. You'll be OK if you do that. Just like in the PC world, unless you are running pirated software (in which case you deserve a virus) or hitting porn sites (in which case you need to learn which ones are more or less safe) you will be fine without a resource-eating AV program.

I can not agree with you on that. Example: there is an app for my credit union on Google Play the app is not authorized by them and it is has a Gmail account for technical support issues. I have reported it to them and Google and it still had not been removed. I keep antivirus on my phone.

As long as you're smart about what you download, you don't need one. I tried one on my Nexus 7, but it was more trouble than it was worth, and it caused my device to crash frequently.

Don't download obscure, fishy-looking apps with only 500+ downloads, and you should be fine. If some wallpaper app is asking for a bunch of unnecessary permissions, you probably don't need it.

There is a lot of junk in the play store. If you tend to download a lot of unpopular apps then it might be worth installing an antivirus.

I like the security apps for the other features than just antivirus. They have locater features as well as the backup of information which is all accessible from a computer. I use AVG.
