Are the bottom function key pads supposed to flash on and off??

Are they on a light sensor or has my phone gone whacky? I didn't notice it doing this yesterday.

They are a bit flaky. They do that on the RAZR also

my dads maxx seems to be a little funky as well. They light up when they feel like it.

They are, yes. Sensor is at the top left of the screen.
