Are the brightness variations on the screen normal? (newspaper-ish display)

Hi,

I bought the Moto X (2014) few days ago. I was curious about the praised (diamond pen-tile) AMOLED screen but when I first started it I saw a nonuniform colors in areas where only one color should be displayed:
  • In the settings menu there is a white background. I see a white-ish background with small brightness (grey-ish) variations all over the place. This reminds me to a newspaper!
  • In the apps section of the Google Play Store is a green bar where I also see small but visible brightness variation.

This strange effect does not change if I adjust the screen brightness.
If I compare this screen to the IPS-LCD screens of old Nexus 4 or Moto G (2013) me and my girlfriend find the display of the Moto X (2914) very strange.

My question is if the is normal to the Moto X (2014) or if I got a broken screen. If this is normal to this high resolution AMOLED screens I have to stick to LCD screen. If this is normal I ask Amazon for a replacement device.

TIA

It's normal, dude. Nothing to worry about. It's just the difference between IPS LCD and AMOLED. I thought it was a bit strange also going from a Nexus 4 to the original Moto X then a Galaxy S5 and questioning also why it has this grainy newspaper look to it. Again its just the difference between the two display tech. All good.

Ha, I never noticed any of that until I saw this thread. Doesn't bother me, fortunately. Good eyes!

Still the best line of phones for me.

OK, thanks. I send it back because I cannot live with that grainy display. I wonder why nobody (?) does complain about this displays...

Some folks see every leaf, while others see only the tree or the forest.

Even after this post, I don't see it as a flaw. In fact, I still see white and green.

Because some people don't nit pick every little detail in hopes of finding flaws.

In fact, I never once noticed any grainyness on this phone or any of my other OLED phones until you pointed it out. And even then I had to look REALLY HARD to even see what you were talking about.
