Are there legal issues with posting informational links, text and images from other sites and public

I have posted a photo'd image of a newspaper articles graph and text; a firmware site link, and pasted info from there; and direct quoted a customer review from a major online retailer (and stated such without directly naming the author to be safe).

Many posters, the better ones and ambassadors included, have helpfully posted images and links from such sources.

I'm currently a little worried about info I displayed from another site regarding firmware.

Is it best to safely pusseefoot around this by not naming directly, or better possibly to quote where the text came from?

I have no legal knowledge, and it probably varies between countries and even states.
Should I just go have a beer and chill out?

In general, you can find most information on Android Central or by searching any of the other Mobile Nations sites. If the information is not there, then it's safe to post outside references and be sure to provide proper credit. For reference, you can review the community rules & guidelines here: http://forums.mobilenations.com/rules-policies/500-community-rules-guidelines.html

Refer to the infractions section:
Copy/Paste of Articles - Blatant copy/paste of articles from outside sources with no additional commentary is strictly prohibited. Failure to include your own original thoughts or relevant feedback is discouraged. Blatant copy/paste offenders will receive a warning or infraction.

Outside Linkage - Linking to content outside of the Mobile Nations network is discouraged, especially if the story/article/video was already published somewhere on Mobile Nations. Always look for (and link to) content from the Mobile Nations network at all times. If no relevant content is available, alert our community manager immediately, he will notify the editorial team(s).

I hope this helps answer your questions. Let us know if you have any questions!

In general, you can find most information on Android Central | Android Forums, News, Reviews, Help and Android Wallpapers or by searching the news articles/blog post on the homepage and share that with the users pretty easily. If you can't and want to share something from another source, there certainly isn't anything wrong with that. Just be sure to provide your source (webpage link) so that proper credit is given and users know where the information can be reviewed.

Succinct and very helpful.

So better to leave the link in when quoting or pasting.

I pasted some firmware numbers yesterday as the link I included required signing up to the site.

I hate spending time researching or Googling (anyone else?) so often miss information that's right there.

If I happen to see something elsewhere that would be helpful in a thread then I would like to post it, and you say that's mostly ok.

Forums are a relatively new legal kettle of fish, I suppose. (Huh?)

Buy me a beer? Anyone?

?Cheers!

I read your update. I know now where to draw the line, but I don't think many have read or stick t those rules in practice. I may be wrong. Nothing major though. Ho Hum.

Sorry about that. I posted to get you quick information then was able to search for a more complete answer when the time permitted. I would agree. I think a lot of people may find information on other sites and immediately jump to the forums and post it there without checking to see that it may have already been covered on the front page. It's OK though, we're all here to learn have fun together. But by all means, don't hesitate to report a post if it's offending or you feel needs a closer look by a Moderator.

I had a suspicion I was seen as being a bad boy with pasting external info. So I'm cool now. I will adhere to that stuff.

They were not offending me at all.
I had noticed other unattributed data attachments in threads, I think, unless they would be in a file name. So I wanted clarification, is all.
I have the rules now.

It occurred to me that you linked that extra text for my benefit, as I said I hated researching, and you were putting it on a plate for me. LOL.
So I meant to add a thank you.
