Are we required to get the $30 2gb plan for under contract?

I was hoping to only get the $39 minute plan and the $10 text plan. If I am forced to get the $30 2gb plan, then I'll just buy it off contract.

you have to get a data plan no matter on contract or not..

Yes. Verizon requires you to get a data plan with ALL smartphones under contract.

Don't know about off-contract, but on-contract Smartphone = Data Plan.

Really can't imagine a smartphone without mobile data. That's like. . .having a Bugatti Veyron but not being able to afford gas.

On the bright side, they are still running the double data rate, 4G for the price of 2G.

I have wifi almost 24/7 so no data plan needed. Amazon offers a 300mb plan...

You might be able to do it, if you pay the full retail price. But if you pay the 2 year contract price, it's subsidized and the cost is offset by the data plans. of course, they are profiting of you no matter what.

Yeah, I calculated the cost and I save $80 vs the off contract if I buy the 300mb plan even though I will almost never use it. Sucks that I have to pay $20/mo just to use it.

You have to have data with smart phone, whether you buy it on contract or pay full price. Data is mandatory, there is no choice.
