Are you going to jump ship for the N5?

So, I've been following the hype machine for the last few weeks and trying to determine if I would get the Nexus 5 if my finances weren't strapped - due to my first baby, if you were wondering. I'm honestly not sure.

On the one hand, it has the newer chipset, stock android, that cool "Ok, Google" feature, and an awesome value. But on the other hand, it's only a slightly newer chipset, the camera's arguably worse (both in raw MP and app), lacks expandable storage (though, I admitting am becoming less concerned with microSD's), and the screen is smaller. Otherwise, both seem pretty similar; 1080p, NFC, LG-made, wireless charging, LTE capabilities, etc.

So, for s#!ts and giggles, what are you guys thinking? It's the googly goodness enough to make you want to jump ship? Or, are you good to stay with your sleeper hit of the year?

Also, I'm no expert, nor am I a newbie, please save the "get what you think is best" and "if you're constantly waiting for the latest and greatest on the horizon, you'll never buy a phone" responses. I'm just trying to have a meaningful discussion on whether OG Pro users are looking to jump ship for the My.

Absolutely not! A phone has to have great differences for me to want to jump ship. The things you mentioned have in no way wanting me to jump ship. This phone is still as good or better than any phone on the market.

I have a much lesser sleeper star of the year, the OF7, and if I hadn't needed a 2nd phone I wouldn't have gotten the N5, but I'm glad I did. I'll have 2 great phones in my opinion. I'm not sure yet what the N5 will have that my OF7 doesn't...

I'm still loving my G Pro. Admittedly, I am interested in the Nexus 5 though. I think I'll keep my G Pro and see how/if we get updates. If they forget about us I may just jump ship. I'm also curious though to see if there's another G Pro on deck.

I feel like the g pro will be forgotten with updates. Never had a Nexus before and the constant updating seems nice. I want a Nexus 5 bad, but I still love my g pro...argh

People talk about updates a lot and for good reason. However, I haven't seen an update yet that I'm just dying to have right now. If it's that serious then just root your device and put a custom rom on it.

The big point on it is that the carriers pretty much block updates just to sell more phones which is crap IMO. LG though most times abandon their flagships real quick as well which also gave them the label of being the worst OEM for phone updates. It is rightly deserved IMO because they earned it. The updates suply more than the just pretty skins it adds functionality and under the hood tweaks that make the user experience better. I've order the Nexus 5 and it is on the truck for delivery today and I won't be getting an LG phone again since I've been burned twice on their lackadaisical attitude to not updating their phones either at all or well slower than all the other manufacturers.

Another big question is why is support so poor that I have to void my warranty to root or put an updated rom on the phone. Thats where I draw the line and just call it a day with any manufacturer that I have to do that just to get the updates I deserve. This phone isn't even a year old and I already see the writing on the wall for this one. I will never again be buying a phone from LG or the other OEMS that have carrier branding. I will get a google edition or nexus phone from here on out every single time because I want the support it deserves and not the manufacturer dragging it's feet ot carrier blocking very good updates.

I don't know what you have been reading but 4.3 and 4.4 or indeed updates to have for your android device. Just the redone functionality and smaller foot print along is a plus.

The N5 looks like a nice phone but it don't offer anything that I need that I don't already have on my G pro so no I'm not jumping ship.

I don't think I'll be buying the N5, I'm in love with my G PRO. 1080P screen, 2GB of ram, and 32GB of space ;) why spend money when you already have a great device? The only con is the updates, the only reason I dislike LG, But still a great phone!

I am considering jumping ship FROM the N5 to the Optimus Pro. I've had the N5 for a couple days, and while I like the phone, I'm a little underwhelmed. Some of the apps I like to use are buggy on Android 4.4. It'll take a while for the developers to work out the issues. I came from an S3, and the OS doesn't seem significantly different for my use.

I think having an IR blaster, a slightly larger screen and user replaceable battery would be nice. Although the processor in the N5 is faster, I don't think I will notice in day to day use. Don't get me wrong as I think the N5 is beautiful. However, I am concerned about LG not providing updates. I know that I can root the phone, but I don't want to void the warranty for the time being.

Do you mean you're worried about not getting updates on the G Pro?

I am rather certain that LG has already left us (OG Pro owners) for dead.

That's typical manufacturer behavior though.

I'm already looking forward to the Ubuntu Edge, which maybe I can save up for by 2017.

[Google updated the darned Google keyboard and now I keep turning on the microphone when I look for the comma. Oh well. Confounded by tech again.]

Yes, I meant updates on the G Pro, not N5.

That has its benefits though. If you like your OS you can keep your OS. I mean that in a good way, lol.

On my lowly optimus f7 with Jelly Bean and the minimal lg ui, I can do certain things I can't do on kitkat (yet or ever).

Where did I hear that before????

He he, that's why I said I mean it in a good way. :D

I'm having a hard time with kitkat so far. I'm not used to it and I don't have the multiple home screens on it that I'm used to and Jelly Bean is familiar and just easier. Maybe I'll change my mind after a while. But if you have Jelly Bean you may even be uncomfortable if they updated to kitkat because you'd have to redo all your customization.

Well, for now, at least for now, I'm keeping my insurance plan, hehe. You can add more home screens. Out of the box, there are only 2, but by dragging icons to the right, another home screen opens up. I don't know how many are available.

I'll try it but no blank home screens in kitkat apparently.

Jump ship for the Nexus 5? Nope, notta, never-gonna-happen. However, since the Nexus 5 is so low cost I will add one to my awesome G Pro.
