Are you insuring your Pixel 4? Do you have a preferred company?

I am considering phone insurance on my 4XL because it is one of the more expensive phones I have bought over the years. I know Square Trade is the main player but I'm finding others and not finding reliable reviews. The others seem to have lower deductibles and/or lower premiums.

Do any of you have recent experience with a 3rd party insurer? Preferably with a claim. I can't insure with my carrier (complicated situation with the billing).

I am down to Square Trade and this other one called "Everything Breaks." I had a company called Worth Ave on my list, chatted with them, then saw all these terrible reviews.

Thanks for your help!

I have used Square Trade in the past with no issues, got a replacement in a few days. I typically buy from the manufacture though, have google preferred care or whatever it is called. Never heard of your other two, but I would feel more comfortable with established companies.

I typically don't and have been lucky with no accidental damage. However, this time around I looked into it and it costs $149 right off the bat. Then when you need to use it you have to pay another $149 so that's $300 right there just to use the insurance. Also you can only use it 2x. So to use it at least once costs ,$300 to use it twice ends up costing $450. Not sure all this extra $ is worth it.

That's one reason I never use these crappy phone insurance. And more over I don't keep my phone long enough for them to be worth and also just the amount of money I have saved not buying these phone insurance plans for my phones over all these years itself covers for the few repairs in case something bad happens. In my opinion it's just not worth it for me personally.

For $300 you can basically almost purchase a new pixel 3a. Maybe I'll just keep my pixel 3 xl as a back up phone instead of selling it.

Why downgrade to a 3a in the event your phone breaks instead of paying the same amount of money to have the same phone you already had?

Yeah agreed definitely not a good deal on insurance given it's not that expensive to just walk into ubreakfix and have it fixed.

I just did a dummy appointment to check how much it'll take to replace the front screen in case you break it. It's around $300 without insurance.

Definitely I'll take that risk since my phone is in a case anyway and even if I break I'll just get it repaired myself instead of doing the insurance. Advantage is if I don't break I don't pay the $149 I would have paid and also that just adds up over all the phone purchases every time I make

In confused. Where did you get $149 off the bat? Square Trade is $9 per month. That's the deductible though.

I think he is referencing preferred care through Google. If you buy from the Google store it's $149 up front (and I think fulfilled through square trade?), with Fi it's the same protection but in a monthly installment form.

The money you spend on insurance is the equivalent of a solid case and screen protector. I never buy the insurance.
