Argh! Trying to find a video player I saw recently to play media from a connected storage device

Unless I was dreaming, sometime within the last 2 weeks, I saw a video player in Google Play Store where when browsing your videos, it would show a movie poster. However, this was not one of those apps like mVideoPlayer, Archos Video Player, or Movie Gallery which would search automatically for the movie information for you. When I looked into it, it seemed it was a simple "put an image file in the same folder with the same name as the video file" and it will show the image file for the video.

I thought I would never have a need to set something up manually like this, but now I do. I am setting up an older (single core 1Ghz) Android "TV box" for a friend's mom who does not have Internet service. While I can use something like Archos to preload the information, I am trying to use a large hard drive so that she does not need to get the videos refreshed frequently and it seems my old Android device is having problems keeping up with the processing power needed to manage a large library. I thought something like simply showing a jpg for the file while browsing the hard drive would be a simple solution. (Of course, there would be no movie information with it, but that is ok.)

Anyway, I've tried my best to find that app and have been turning up empty. Anyone seen an app like this? Thanks!

Well, for streaming video, I've found that using ES File Explorer to find my SMB video file, and then launching the video with VLC using the "play" context menu works wonders.

Nothing fancy, but it works. When video is done, I hit "Back" and I'm back in my File manager ready to browse for something else.
