When you slam a phone that most reviewers praise one begins to wonder who they are owned by. I admit I don't read them much or ever and will not waste my time when I see they have something to say. Is it an Apple fanboy site or owned by Samsung. Why the slam?

My 2 cents . . . that reviewer is more known for his scoring based on looks, not on technical considerations.

What specifically in the ars review do you think is unreasonable or incorrect?

If the Oneplus 6 is actually any good, it should be able to withstand a little fair criticism.

I was just looking at the cnet and Android central reviews and sample photos and then the ars technica review and wondering are they looking at the same phone? Cnet gave the One plus 6 the Editors choice award with 8.5 out of 10 rating. The IPhone X got a 8.9. Just saying.
I ordered mine and it will be delivered 5-24. Midnight black 128gb. With the sandstone case. Mom use to say the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

I don't know about CNET, but the Android Central writers are heavily biased in favor of OnePlus phones. But either way, it's just the opinions of that particular writer, not if the site and it's generally fairly unscientific unless you're reading on anandtech or something similar.

Ron from Ars Technica, David Ruddock from Android police and there are a couple more who are generally critical of devices. You got to take some points what they are saying, compare with others and also base some from your own experience. I never rely or buy anything based out of any of these reviews in general. Like to try it out myself and make my own decision.

Ars Technica aren't CNET though...

There were definitely criticisms in the ars review, some of them I agree with, but there were positive notes too.

I'd say he didn't like the phone, but insinuating they've been"bought" by Apple or Samsung is unnecessary and naive.

There is no such thing as an objective review, unfortunately. Ars are generally quite a good site, but they aren't always right. Let's not forget they reviewed "star Trek": discovery favourably.

I never trust any reviewer on YouTube. I just watched for fun. Most of them just used the phone for review in just very short time. For example 99% said s9 display is the best but only 1% notice black crushed shadow on the screen.

I already know before I buy my OP6 that the camera is not the same level as pixel or iPhone but I think overall for the price is should be solid camera.

It's not as good, but to me it's perfectly servicable if all you're going to do with your photos is post them to social media.

Agree camera is going to be good enough, it's definitely not a huge difference between any of the newest phones. And we still live in a world where most people prefer filters or edited photos over perfect reproduction, so not being technically the best doesn't necessarily hurt.

I'd rather read reviews that come from a more critical perspective, so I don't see any problem with what Ron Amadeo wrote at Ars. I think he's overly concerned about physical design, but I know that about him from reading previous reviews so I can pretty much ignore his complaints in those areas and focus on others (like software experience, which is my highest priority - will the OEM support it with timely updates, is the UI smooth or janky, does it have too many software gimmicks, etc.)

There's also a good chance that some reviewers got units that weren't as good as others. I imagine the phones they specifically send to reviewers goes through a little extra qa to help prevent a bad review. The reviewers getting the general release models may actually get a unit that is not as good. Who knows. These reviews mean so little to sales theres literally no reason for manufacturers to BUY OUT tech journalists. MAYBE someone like mkbhd bc of his reach but I even think that's a stretch.

To tell you the truth some reviewers could still have a bad taste in their mouth from the days they had issues. Remember that invite system? That's the worse thing I've ever seen. It was infuriating. I know my opinion is forever altered bc of some of those stunts so I think anyone's could be.
