I'll be interested to see what improvements on the original are being been made. CPU and RAM? Relatively marginal improvements on what's already a stellar device.

Weren't the first ones made by Samsung?

I'm curious if they will follow suit with that amazing screen.

Nexus. Through spacetime.

I have less faith in Asus than I do Samsung. I've never been totally impressed with an Asus product other than its affordability. Then again I probably won't be switching from my current Nexus 10 unless something is drastically better. The Nexus 10 is really fantastic I wouldn't change anything about it other than battery life.

I'll say this much: the Nexus 7 (especially the 2013 model) gives ASUS a fair bit of credit in my view. I love the thing. If they are to make a successor to the current Nexus 10, the Nexus 7 and overall 'refreshed look' of the Nexus line (see: 2013 N7, N5 'leaks') leave me looking forward to (and optimistic about) an improved N10.

Having 2 of the top 5 tablets is pretty huge, especially when one is a year old and both are priced so aggressively (thank you Google). The question is, will this give them 3/5 or will something (Apple playing?) knock the 2012 N10 and N7 off the list?

(My top 5 list is assuming 2013 Nexus 7 > iPad 4 > 2012 Nexus 10 > 2012 Nexus 7 > 2012 iPad Mini, with an honorable mention to the Galaxy Note series). Your list may vary ;)

Yuppers, it would vary -- I'd switch the Nexus 10 and the Nexus 7 2013. Other than a slightly better ppi, I don't think the new 7 beats out the 10. I think you are still just in a honeymoon phase. ;)
