So I've decided that I'm going to get a tablet however I'm debating whether I should get the Transformer now or hold out until the Galaxy Tab is released in June. The keyboard dock on the transformer is not a huge interest to me, I may want to get it at a later point in time but I will not be buying it upfront. The price of the Transformer is very attractive but from what I can see it seems like the Galaxy Tab build quality and thinness is a plus over the Transformer. Anyways, what are your opinions? Should I go for it now or hold out and go crazy until then?:-!

I was of the exact same mind set. I went ahead and ordered a Transformer for several reasons:

  • The price is lower
  • The keyboard is a big deal for me. Creating emails or other content on an iPad or NC is a pain.
  • I have a NC for when I need a small tablet. This unit will be mostly for use around the office or at home. As a results, size is not as big an issue.

This is the same debate I had in my head last night and decided to order the Transformer this morning for the reason listed ^^^. The only thing I really liked about Sammy over Asus was the device hardware. The keyboard was the finally decision maker for me.

The keyboard dock is such a no brainer for me that I've not even considered any other tablet once I saw how nicely it integrates. Today I carry my Xoom and HP Envy 14 to the office, only because sometimes I need to type longer pieces. For everything else I do, the tablet by itself is preferable. With the keyboard dock, the Envy will stay at home (and in fact, I probably wouldn't have bought it at all if the Transformer had been out in December).

If you don't need a physical keyboard (or extended battery), then I'd say the Samsung would be an interesting option. As would the Acer. But if you have any use for either, then the Transformer is in a class by itself at the moment.

Have you written off the Acer Iconia?

I played with it at Best Buy today and it feels like a good product. More comfortable in the hand than the Xoom, imo.

If I didn?t want the keyboard of the Transformer, I?d be thinking about the Iconia.

I played with the Iconia at BB yesterday. Very nice tablet - good build quality, more comfortable to hold, better volume switch. Nicer than my Xoom, at lower price and better features (full size USB is nice).

If the Transformer wasn't available, I'd definitely buy the Iconia. Acer got unlucky to release such a nice tablet and then have Asus steal their thunder. I guess that's the cut throat world of gadgets though... But then Samsung is coming out with their tabs and it starts all over again. Then Sony, then Amazon, then X, then Y, then Z tabs, then generation 2 tablets, gen 3...Designed obsolesence.

Hmm... yeah it's a pretty tricky decision. I have a feeling that I'll end up going with the transformer just since even though I don't need the keyboard dock now I could see myself wanting it somewhere down the road.
