At&t 3g Coverage

I live in Freeport, IL. and we are still using the edge network. All of the other major wireless carriers have 3g service some even have 4g. I'm wondering if you have any insight as to when 3g maybe coming to freeport, IL. I spoke with At&t and they pretty much told me to hang tight it's on the radar. Thanks in advance for any help.
