Alright, I'm trying to put a ROM on my galaxy S3 i747, Tried the new pacman rom 4.3. Downloading the rom and the gapps. Got into my clockwork mod recovery V6..0.4.3. Found the .zip rom proceeded and It gave me an error.. It took me back to the menu and i did a factory reset again then tried rebooting it and it comes on at the recovery only.... How do I fix this?

I hard bricked my last S3 doing pretty much the same thing except i used an international ROM instead of I747. (I now have a jig just in case, and I learned my lesson Putting another phones software on mine) So I'm very paranoid about all this. I just want a working custom rom that gets rid of all the AT&T crap and a higher base version. What do I need to do to fix the issue im at now, And what am i doing wrong on installing this ROM?

I'm rooted, I have clockwork, I factory reset before trying to open the .zip ROM I'm at 4.1.2.

Whenever you do a factory reset via CWM (or TWRP), you need to flash something to get back into the system. You made a backup before flashing this new ROM correct? Just restore your old ROM.

Try downloading the PACman ROM again. It might have been a bad download.

Re: Phone boots into Clockwork Mod recovery only...

I THOUGHT I made a backup. I used Nandroid and did a backup with that. I have one of the back ups on my sd card and one on my computer. Neither one of them seem to do anything...

Re: Phone boots into Clockwork Mod recovery only...

Does it fail to flash the backup?

Re: Phone boots into Clockwork Mod recovery only...

It's like it's not even there... the file is right next to the pacman rom and gapps. But when clicking my backup it says at the bottom "No files found"

Re: Phone boots into Clockwork Mod recovery only...

Hmmm......can you mount your SD card from CWM? If you can (and your PC detects teh SD card), download another ROM and see if you can flash that. I would suggest a TW ROM for now so that you don't have to worry about flashing gapps.

Re: Phone boots into Clockwork Mod recovery only...

The options I get under "mounts and storage"

-unmount /cache
-mount /system
-unmount /data
-unmount /storage/sdcard1
-format /cache
-format /system
-format /data
-format /storage/sdcard1
-format /data and /data/media (/sdcard)
-mount USB storage

I went into mount system, nothing happens. So I tried mount USB storage. and nothing again. the computer is not recognizing anything

Re: Phone boots into Clockwork Mod recovery only...

Can you take out your SD card, connect it to your PC, then transfer a ROM?

Re: Phone boots into Clockwork Mod recovery only...

I would pull the battery, leave it out, and pull out the sd card. Insert into your PC, download a ROM file to the root of sotrage, and reinsert into your phone. Put the battery back in, and reboot into recovery. Flash the ROM.

Re: Phone boots into Clockwork Mod recovery only...

What error is CWM giving you when the ROM is being flashed? Also, where are you downloading the ROM from and is there a source thread you are referencing to flash the ROM?

Let us know if any of the recommendations provided in the post above work out for you.

Re: Phone boots into Clockwork Mod recovery only...

Alright, I used this method Stock ROM Firmware Download Links HERE - xda-developers and it brought me back to stock. Looks like it erased root and everything. I'm at 4.0.4 again. BUT its working and it's on.

6 months ago I rooted and put a custom ROM on my S3 without a problem.. Now things seem more complicated now that I'm back with a new S3

I don't want to screw anything else up. Could someone possibly give me the link on the best rooting method and then getting the correct ROM? also what are TW Roms?

And this was the pacman rom i tried using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2015607 I can't remember what error it was giving sorry.

TW is TouchWiz....basically stock ROMs. The other option is an AOSP ROM, like a Nexus device.

Try this: GalaxyS3Root.com - How to Root Galaxy S3, custom ROMs, tips, and more!
Follow instructions for your carrier. That should get you rerooted. Then, you can flash whatever ROM you like.

This thread should work for you: http://forums.androidcentral.com/t-...-how-root-without-tripping-flash-counter.html

Second page about midway a user rooted and went form 4.0.3 to 4.0.4, which is what you have, using the above how-to. Since you are already on 4.0.4 nothing will change other than getting the necessary files to root.

Make sure you keep the stock ROM on hand just in case you have problems in the future.

Re: Phone boots into Clockwork Mod recovery only...

Ok, Thank you too all. One last question. I used nandroid(thinking that would make a back up of my rom) But I guess it didn't. Is that the correct way to backup the stock rom or is there another process I need to do to backup the rom?

Nandroid is the correct way to backup ROMs. Once you root your device it should work correctly.

Re: Phone boots into Clockwork Mod recovery only...

None of the ROMS I tried work. I redownloaded the pacman ROM and gapps after I was rooted and Had the latest Version of CWM(oddly after I downloaded it when ever I rebooted to go into recovery it was the stock recovory) I used ROM manager and flashed the latest CWM again rebooted it and it was there. Tried to use a Carbon-jb ROM and got this

set_perm: some changes d=failed
e: error in /storage/sdcard1/carbon-jb-nightly-20130910-0828-d2att.zip
status 7
installation aborted

Re: Phone boots into Clockwork Mod recovery only...

Do you have Super User installed on your phone? I would give TWRP a try. That's my recovery of choice :)

Also, download RootChecker form the Play Store just to see if your phone has root.

Re: Phone boots into Clockwork Mod recovery only...

Alright, Did a fresh root to the phone, I used ROOT checker and it says its rooted, I used triangle away and got rid of the counters. I'll look into TWRP now. Should I make a back up with nandroid now? before putting a custom recovery or after?

Re: Phone boots into Clockwork Mod recovery only...

I personally do a nandroid backup before I flash anything. It's real easy to delete them if you don't need them :)
