AT&T... What should I know before I switch?

Thanks for all of the opinions and advice.

Can anyone confirm that with at&t you are able to call up to 5 people at one time? On my sprint phone (GS2) after I add one call (make a 3 way call) the add call button goes away.

My cousin with the iphone can add 5 calls. I'm trying to find out if thats just an iphone feature or if thats an ATT feature.

I believe that is an iPhone feature but I'll research when I get home

I made a switched when second gen iPhone released. Here is what I did, and I am still with ATT today with S3. I also witched from iPhone 4 to S3.

1. Keep your current phone at where ever the provider is now.
2. Get a new phone and a new number at ATT.
3. Forward all your call to new number at ATT.
4. Use/Test the ATT phone within your returning period as much as you can to see if you like it or if there is any issue. Everyone case is different depending on where you are.

- Me Like It: If you like the new service and phone from ATT, you then tell ATT to port your old number(step 1) to new phone and cancel your old provider. Done.

- Me Don't like it: if you don't like new phone and service, you simply return and terminate new contract from ATT within your grace period. Done

That's what I did.

Time ur exit from sprint .

No prorated refunds

I'm in central California (just south of Fresno) and switched back to at&t about a month ago. Best thing I ever did. I think though the best thing to do in any area is to check around and see which carrier performs the best in for your needs in your area. Every region is different and some carrier perform better in some area than others. Your mileage may vary. Where I'm at Sprint is horrible with data speed.

What he said. Your coverage should dictate choice of carrier. Little else is mission critical.

Edit: Other things being equal, GSM kicks CDMA right in the taco.

GSM is definitely the way to go!!! However, AT&T is not what everyone is making it out to be. Yes I currently have them and am pleased with my service, but its the little things that annoys me.

NO ONE WANTS TO MENTION THE FACT THAT THEY ALWAYS THROTTLE SPEEDS DURING CALLS!!! You can easily pull 7mbps down and then in the same location get half of a megabyte during a call. Run the test several times if you don't believe me.

AT&T also has disabled every possible way to turn off 3G and use EDGE only on all their devices except iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4. I find this extremely annoying.

They have repeated the same thing with 4G LTE. Currently one using a 4G LTE device cannot turn it off and use HSPA+/3G only. Again, very annoying when you get 1 bar of LTE and your buddies's iPhone is rocking 5 bars of HSPA+.

I still think they are the best carrie for smartphones. Verizon has NO fallback from LTE and likes to rape its customers with prices and screw loyal customers.

They do throttle your speeds and to toggle between isint thay big of a factor if you are getting a 4glte phone. And their is a way to toggle lte and hspa+ and its very easy no root needed

All the carriers are out for one thing. Make money. They all have they're good and bad. I feel it mainly comes down to which will give you the best overall coverage for call quality and data coverage. One may have better customer relations over the other or slightly better pricing ( the the shared data plans that Verizon has and ATT is coming out with, ATT is slightly cheaper overall). For me though where I live and work, the little more cost with Big Red is worth the way better coverage.

I'd thought about switching to ATT because of their selection of phones. I was using a WP at the time but am frustrated with Verizon's total lack of WP support so thought about ATT. But I did some asking around of ATT users of how their coverage is and where they have lack of, and compared to how my Verizon coverage is, and I soon realized there was no way I'd switch. Go with the carrier that's going to give you the best coverage where YOU live and work and I'll bet you'll be able to over look some other short comings you feel that carrier has.

How does phone swapping work on at&t?

I have a strange scenario.
I have a buddy with the GS3 on ATT
He wants to get the new iphone but he just used his upgrade on GS3.
I will be switching to ATT around the time the new iphone comes out. Therefore I can get the new iphone at a discounted rate vs. him who would have to pay full price because he is not eligible for an upgrade.
If I get the new iphone and give it to him can he just put his sim card in and I take his GS3 and put my sim card in it and we both are happy and smiling? or is there more to it?

I hope this can be done, hes offering to give me his GS3 along with $50 and his Class 10 32gb micro sd card.

All you have to do is swap phone's. You just put you similar card in the new phone Ans in this case you won't have to go to at&t to get a new sim as both are micro Sims. But if you ever exchange for another phone that isn't useing micro sim you have to do the extra step of going to at&t to get a sim or just do what I do and get an adapter.
