AT&T z998 phone

Hi, I don't know where I'm supposed to post. I just bought my first smart phone. It is AT&T Z998. Clerk said it was Android. I am very new to smart phones. I've always had flip phones. My phone doesn't come with many instructions. It's a go phone also. I have been looking at Android kind of instructions online, but either I don't understand them or can't find them. I just wanted to know the basics like how to delete old messages, sent messages, etc. I don't see under menu where I do that. Can anyone help me? Thank you so much.

It's a little out of date, but still relevant. Don't be intimidated by the length of the thread--after the first several posts of tutorials, there are a lot of questions and replies, which you don't need to read.
