Yes, it is a play to sell the RAZR. It might have nicer/more durable build materials (metal, kevlar, etc) but it is vastly inferior in terms of screen and "openness." It's only a qHD screen, runs blur, has a locked bootloader, and will always have the dedicated softkeys. Moreover, updates will have to run through Moto and then Verizon and the dev community won't do much with it. Even after ICS comes to it (which could be 6+ months from now), it's going to be an inferior device.

Oh, okay. That's basically what I was looking for. I wanted to know if Verizon will announce pre-release and how early that announcement will be. From your info though, looks like there could be no announcement, and it'll just be there. Thanks!
Depends on how much they want to put into a device. While this device is big for us... on the whole, it won't be. Nexus devices haven't sold well in the past, and won't in the future until both carriers and google/manufacturer push the device hard. Is it a spec beast? No, but its still impressive, and a great device all around.
