What do you guys think? Verizon just announced its release of the iphone 4 for its network in february. It will have mobile hotspot for up to five devices. The Atrix needs to be released ahead of the iPhone 4 for verizon. Other wise i do believe it will be overshadowed by everyone except android sites. I know the Atrix is a better phone overall aspects. Yet apple has money pouring out the waazoo. They will bury any competition. What do you guys think?

I'm not sure when AT&T or Motorola typically releases new devices - but it seems that for the ATRIX to get its fair shot in the limelight - it needs to be released for sale by the end of January. They need to follow the same strategy that Sprint did for the EVO - who smartly got it out before the iPhone4 went on sale.

Given that the Super Bowl is February 6th - I feel that the Atrix needs to be out before then as well. Keep in mind that while Apple may heavily advertise the iPhone - AT&T has not advertised the iPhone - so I don't expect to see much of a marketing push for the Verizon iPhone. So with that in mind - AT&T can pour its marketing dollars into the worlds most powerful smart phone. If they were smart they would announce preorders within the week so that they could begin to build excitement for a launch on or prior to the Feb. 3rd pre order date for the VZW iPhone. Give people the chance to get a new phone now.

I don't think that it will be overshadowed. It's the iPhone 4. People have seen it. It's on verizon, but it doesn't mean it's a new phone. The news will die down quite quickly. I expect Atrix news will as well until launch day, but then it will be a new phone that more people will have more new things to say about it.

Besides, Android is getting to the point that even the normal person takes notice of it in much the same way as the iPhone.

Let it be overshadowed. The more people that stick to iPhones the more i still want android. I don't want everyone on this just yet. Exclusive is better until we find the next greatest geek phone. Plus people that want iPhone just don't understand flexibility and options.

i think if at&t is smart, they will put a strong marketing push behind this phone. theyve been leaning on iphone exclusivity for several years. now that they no longer have the device exclusively, they need to do more to get a stronger share on the other mobile platforms. android is a platform they have largely ignored so far, but this phone is a great jumping off point for them. they seem to be serious about marketing this thing, as the commercial was running during the playoff games this past weekend, and i doubt it has gone unnoticed by those interested in android. i think they should do more to highlight the webtop functionality of the phone, as that could potentially draw in a lot of people who really havent heard of the atrix yet

really? i didnt see a commercial :( i missed it. :(

edit:

I just saw it. It is great lol. Airport guy is like wtf i thought it was a phone.

its the one where the dude puts his atrix on an airport xray machine, and the technician sees an open laptop instead of a phone. hoping they actually show off the webtop accessories in a different commercial at some point.

They need to get a release date out ASAP. People on the fence will start setting their hearts on the iPhone going to Verizon if the Atrix seems to be a long time coming.

AT&T needs to get a release date out now. It would be wise to announce that sales start in the next week or two and that you can go and preorder the device on "X" day.

Like the commercial, and I agree that AT&T needs to put a strong push behind this phone, and rightfully so. This is easily the most powerful phone yet, and it would be a complete shame if AT&T decided it wasn't going to utilize that going forward. The fact that they lost the iPhone exclusivity is no doubt going to hurt them, so they need to start making up for that somewhere. Why not start with the Atrix.

lol. by october, ill bet something better than the atrix will be available

+1...we hit over 70 phones last year, I expect that number to be well over 100 by the end of this year. I'm sure the Atrix won't be on top for long. No phone stays on top for long these days, for that matter.

The rumored release date is 03/01, if that turns out to be true, is anyone concerned that this thing will get overshadowed by something at MWC next month?

Yes. I think it will be. I think it might get overshadowed by sprint come feb 7. But who knows. I'm already considering switching provider away from AT&T.

The Verizon iPhone is going to overshadow everything on every network as it nears launch and in the couple weeks following it. Still, AT&T has to burn some marketing cash on the Atrix now that they have a decent phone not named the iPhone or Captivate.

Is the Atrix going to be THE phone for this year? I'm not so sure. Two years ago, we had the Droid, last year we had the Droid(s), Evo, and Nexus. This year, well, it seems too soon to judge how this phone will fare against the onslaught of phones comming. That's not to say its not a nice phone and that you shouldn't buy it though. I'm sure if anyone here got the Atrix they would be plenty happy, even a year down the line. (Except those of us who switch phones every 4 or 5 months)

The Atrix may not be the top phone for long, but it's specs alone SHOULD allow it to easily still be a good choice through the entirety of 2011.

I agree but i feel that it will be that phone that only those who visit forums like this will know about. If march is a release date for this CTIA is that same month people who can will wait and if anything better is announced in a non crowded network people will wait. This sucks i need a phone now though. I had to give my iphone to my brother :( (i promised when he started college he would get it.) so now ill be phoneless and dont want to lose my grandfathered internet.
