ATT android handsets; which one should I get?

So I have recently decided to step up my mobile device and get into the world of android. I've been on ATT for a while and it seems like we've got a few decent handsets already and coming out, and I am at a loss as to which one is for me. Seeing as the N1 is being discontinued soon, I figured I should actually get to figuring out what I want in case I do end up picking that one.

So with that said, it seems like my options are N1, Aria, Streak and the Captivate. I've done a fair amount of research on each one and I've pretty much ruled out the Aria, even though Sense seems like the best UI around, mostly because the hardware doesn't seem to stack up to the other 3. Size/pocketability aren't a huge concern for me, so for all intents and purposes, bigger is better, which would lead me to the streak. However, I've recently been worried about the fact that it is still running on 1.6, and from what I understand, 2.x seems to be vital to a top of the line smartphone.

So this is where I'm at right now. Of the 4, which seems to be the best? is the size of the streak (assuming big is good) worth the fact that it runs a mostly outdated OS, or are the captivate and N1 just better? is the Aria a good choice, even though it seems to lack in the hardware department? any help is greatly appreciated

Well I would rule out the Aria because from what I have read about Froyo is that they are recommending 1 ghz minimum cpu where the N1, Streak and Captivate have. Now as for the Dell Streak, I have not gotten to play nor see how they run but still running the old 1.6 is something that would turn me off. I have not played with the N1 but it is a great phone, however, kind of sad that it is ending it's product life because Google is not going to have them after they sell out. As for the Captivate, I love it, I have had mine since Sunday when it was launched and I had to wait for it. A few little mods to the phone *rooting and updating the settings.db to allow for running Non Market Apps* has made it more open like the N1 and the comparison for running 3D intensive games has been proven that the Captivate blows the N1 out of the water.

N1 is great because it already has froyo *2.2* where the Captivate is still on eclair *2.1*. The aria is considered an entry level Android Phone and who knows froyo might get to the aria but only time as well as google and htc knows for sure. I cannot say anything bad about the Captivate because it is just a great performer and really impressed me when Phil did the benchmarking of the Evo vs droid x vs captivate vs n1. My recommendation if you are wanting android and running on att, either get the Captivate *on contract $ 100 - 200* or without contract $ 500 and the N1 is $ 529 but it is unlocked..

HTH,

I'd recommend the Captivate. I just got mine and after a couple of hours...WOW...

It has a great screen size and is very thin, making it easy to pocket. As far as the other Androids: I rule out the Aria. I just don't think it stacks up to the others. I'd also rule out the Streak, because it seems too big. I couldn't imagine carrying it around all day, though I am intrigued by it. I would pick between the N1 and Captivate. As I've said, I'm using the Captivate and it's amazing.
