So you think your grandfathered in to Unlimited Data for $30/month do ya? Think again. Because ATT has always had problems delivering data, they now can choose to throttle back phones of unlimited data plans if that person is in the top 5% of data users. That's users of more than 2Gb of data. The won't do it automatically, but they are doing it. So if you find your phone is basically useless it's so slow, and you call and complain to ATT they will pimp you to change to their "tiered" plan and get 3GB of FAST data for the same $30/month you're now paying for "unlimited" data, you data hog you. Except it's unlimited at speeds that are 99% slower. Arent' you glad you're with Verizon?

T-Mobile does the same thing.

People complain about verizon but they're network is still dominant and the speeds are great

I went back and checked my data usage over the last few months. Since my billing cycle of August of last year, I've averaged 7.6gbs of data. I cannot complain about my speeds one bit. 4G LTE FTW.

Thank GOD I switched to Verizon back in July. Last day they offered unlimited data.

Att has always blown.

I've never used them (their coverage sux here). But they're picking on their own old customers, the ones who grandfathered in with unlimited, cutting them back instead of the tiered users. It's all about the fees, and they want the unlimiteds to swith to tiered (no slowdowns for them). They don't have to slow anyone down. And then they wonder why they lose customers right and left.

Its funny in my office, 40th floor in an NYC building. Anyone who has ATT gets no service, can't call or send texts. I am sitting here with full 3g and 4g doing whatever I want with my phone

I went back to vzw in 2009 after a 1.4 year stint with att. My main reason was the fact that I could not keep a call from Carson City to Reno with a bold 9000.

Vzw has a much more sensible approach to data hogs. If the tower is loaded up you get throttled.

I've always loved Verizon, but if they don't get there issues figured out with this 4g network, I fear their data coverage is going to be looked at more like people currently view at&t (as a POS).

What? Compared to AT&T, they're rolling out LTE very fast. They've still got the largest LTE network in the world so nobody is looking at it like that.

So your limited more than people who pay for 4?
Yeah, they only throttle back the Unlimited plans, and they might do it before you reached 3GB (which you can get for $30/mo). Like I said they want to get all the unlimited people to switch to a tiered plan. Once everybody's tiered I bet they start reducing the amount of data and raising the prices.
Why do they have an ATT Galaxy Nexus forum here if the phone is only on Verizon? I don't get that.

OH YEAH!!! VZW Unlimited data since May 2009!!! I do at least two hours of Netflix a day on my Tbolt, with no slowdown whatsoever. Eat it, AT&T!!!

I have the $30 Unlimited Smartphone plan from AT&T and I received a test from them last week indicating I am in their top 5%. My data usage was 2.1 GBs. They also e-mailed me and said that they will not be reducing my speeds THIS billing cycle as the top 5% changes every month. However, if I am in the top 5% next month, I may see reduced speeds.

Last month I used 3.5 GBs and never heard a peep from AT&T, though I was near the end of my billing cycle once I hit 3.5GBs. I was in the start of my billing cycle this month when I received the notice.

Many hate AT&T for this - I do not. It was in the terms and conditions from the beginning. They can do it. Many people don't understand that and are threatening legal action. I find this hilarious as it won't get them anywhere. What's one person going to do against a corporation as large as AT&T?

I agree that reducing speeds near 2GB is pathetic but the fact is they CAN do it.

Why don't I jump ship to Verizon? Well I almost did, then it hit me, I'd be paying A LOT more for A LOT less. They have no Mobile to any mobile feature unless all your friends have Verizon which in my case do not. I was also thinking of trying the unlimited data loophole and then I figured they could revert this at any time considering it wasn't offered to you when you signed the contract.

And most importantly - I really don't like CDMA technology. That's preference.

All and all this thread is redundant in the VERIZON Galaxy Nexus forum.

Other carriers slow you down when you go long on data use, but the article I read had a user very much like you, he hit about 2.3gb halfway into the billing period, and they slowed him down by 99% for the rest of the month, so it took several minutes to download a web page. Once that happens most people will change their plan to the tiered from unlimited, which is their goal, to make the high data users pay more their current $30/month (the 3GB rate). It's all about the fees. I pay $30/month unlimited Vzn too, but I don't use much data. I could/might go for 2gb for $20 soon. WiFi data use doesn't count, and more and more people use that now.

Well you have clearly not done much research and if you feel the service you are receiving from AT&T is acceptable for the money then more power to you because I would have left long ago with that treatment no matter if its in the agreement. I am sorry but if 2-3gb is where they break their backs and freak then that is a sub par network and yet people scream how much better GSM is for whatever reason. You would pay the same amount as them and maybe even less for Verizon 4G that gets up 3x faster than the 4g you are being "offered". MY step mom switched from AT&T and had the same exact features with Verizon with Mobile to Mobile added and saves $9 a month compared to AT&T so it is cheaper at times or the same and in this case had a major feature added. AT&T even decided to add LTE and said to heck with you HSPA+ fools who fell for us telling you it was 4G and way better than the Verizon LTE crap! Also I have mobile to mobile on my account right now (Free calls to all cell phones on any network which Verizon introduced before AT&T did) so you clearly have done no research to see if the options are better elsewhere, which in this case they clearly are.
