Need a little help and can?t seem to find answers.
Do i need anything special (app) to download an audio book?
Do i need anything special (apps) to play and listen to one?
What is anyone else who is into audio books doing?
Any good web pages or free ones to see if i really like them.
Thanks

Audible has some really great reviews in the market. I haven't used their service and I don't know how many if any are free.

I use 3 audiobook apps:
1) I have an audible.com subscription, so I use their app for those audiobooks;
2) my public library has a fantastic collection of audiobooks that can be 'borrowed'. I use 1 of 2 players to listen to these:
2a) they can be downloaded or sideloaded directly to your device & then use the Overdrive Media Console player; or
2b) I sideload the books & use the MortPlayer app to play them.
I use MortPlayer because I can keep the book on my device for as long as I need to finish listening; with the OMC, the license expires after 10 days; since I usually have 4-5 different books 'checked out' at a time, 10 days is sometimes not enough. And I really like the interface of MortPlayer

Edit: my library's audio book collection comes in either WMA or MP3 format; only MP3 format will play on Android devices.

Second for mortplayer. It's really the only option. One suggestion, create a lot of bookmarks. Their interface can be tricky and I find myself accidentally hitting the chapter skip quite a bit.

Audible is the best for audiobooks, but sadly only works with their titles. For audible if you use roms, be prepared to call them and have them reset your device limit. It's a pain, they say by the end of the year you'll be able to do it from the web like the rest of Amazon.

Here is another option to consider: audiobooks take up a lot of space and even with the larger storage on our current phones, you might not want to fill them up with audiobooks. If you are going to go the route of downloading books in MP3 format from any source to your computer, consider Audiogalaxy to stream the books straight to your phone (not a cloud service like Amazon Cloud Player or Google Music, although those are alternatives as well). With Audiogalaxy, you just install the app on both your computer and phone, select the folders you would like to link between the two and you are good to go. It buffers pretty well, and you can even "pin" as many tracks as you like if you think you are going to be away from a good signal. This temporarily downloads tracks to your phone for offline listening, so you get the best of both worlds. One catch: your computer has to be on if you want to stream, but you can "pin" tracks if you need to turn your computer off.

I have listened to audiobooks for decades (literally) starting with actual tapes in a Walkman, and I have tried everything. Audiogalaxy is my current "go to".

There's also a free app called audiobooks which works pretty well. It's mostly older free books with different readers for many of the chapters, but for free it's not bad. We listened to A Princess from Mars driving home from Wyoming to Michigan, and for being free it really made the time pass quickly.
