Audio notifications on Nexus 4 with T-Mobile prepaid

I'm currently using T-Mobile prepaid, so that may or may not be the cause, but is anyone else having issues with audio notifications sometimes not working?

I usually have multiple devices sitting around that I am testing and find that when the other devices get an email notification for instance, that the Nexus 4 does not always give off the audio notification.

I've checked to make sure volume is up, and that the Gmail and Mail apps are set to a specific tone but it is hit or miss. Messaging is the same way, sometimes I hear them, other times I don't.
