Auto BCC in email? Different incoming email notifications?

Hi folks,

This is my first thread over here. I have been bugging the PreCentral guys for a week or two now. I have been a longtime Palm user, but now that Palm has forgotten what made them great and are now just a regular smartphone, I am opening my search a little.

Anyway, the question for this thread is whether Android phones have an auto bcc feature on the email client. Can I set up the client to automatically bcc another email for every email I send out?

Also, can I set up separate incoming email notifications for different email senders? Like, can I give my wife a seperate sound from all the rest of the email notifications I get?

Welcome from another former Palm user and non-pre-owning member of precentral. I got tired of waiting for the ATT Pre, and got a Nexus One. I love it.

To answer your questions, no and no. The current email client in Android 2.1 does not allow auto bcc or differentiated notifications. It does not even include an automatic (or any) signature feature.

The good news is--like on the Palm OS platform--there are many out there developing better versions of apps all the time. There are two alternative email apps that have more features (I have not tried them as I am waiting to see what the imminent 2.2 release will improve). If you were a DateBk6 (or earlier) user, the rumor is that the developer is working on an Android version of that calendar.

So, Android is new and rapidly growing and developing. I see lots of similarity between the old Palm OS developer community and the Android community--all without the lockdown control of Apple (as much as I love my macs).

Pre has a long way to go, and webOS is not garnering the attention and interest that Android is--even though the webOS is very elegant. It is in some ways more elegant than Android, but I expect that Android will catch up. New releases of the OS are coming like every 6 months. Also, there are a bazillion device options for Android and only 2 for Palm.

Those are my thoughts. I took the plunge about a month ago and have not looked back.

Cheers,

aviduser
