Is there a way to disable this? It seems like the phone is always dimming in darker areas and there is no feature to turn it off

If you have the Verizon one it has stock android, settings>display>brightness

Also, its supposed to get dim in darkness, that's the whole point of auto brightness.

There is no option to disable automatic brightness on this phone. Your might try the power control widget.

the new update that started to rollout the past day or two is supposed to now allow you to disable it, so once you are able to update you should have that option available.
