Auto-rotate not working properly since the last update!?

Does anyone notice auto rotate not working properly with most videos since the last update?

It's acting like the issue I continue to have with my ringer volume automatically setting itself to a low nearly inaudible level and the volume rocker on the phone does nothing to change the audible volume higher even tho the slider shows max volume. With both issues, restarting the phone temporarily cures the issue. The volume issue is particularly annoying because I end up missing calls and texts because of the low volume issue. Only a minor inconvenience with the auto rotate suddenly not working.

I appreciate the suggestion but putting the phone in Safe mode reboots the phone as far as I can tell. And when my phone is rebooted, both issues are temporarily resolved until at some point in time volume drops again to next to nothing and the screen won't auto rotate. If there was a way to put the phone in Safe mode without rebooting the phone then I could tell. But as far as I know, the only way to put it in Safe mode is via reboot. I suppose I could leave it in Safe mode for an afternoon to see if the 2 problems recur while in safe mode but can you get calls and texts while you are in safe mode?

You can certainly get calls and texts in Safe Mode (assuming you're not using some 3rd party VoIP or messaging platform). Troubleshooting with Safe Mode often does require you to use it for a number of hours in Safe Mode to see if the problem returns quickly, or if it stays away. How long to use it in Safe Mode depends on how frequently the problem usually happens.

You should be able to use for calls and text just not 3rd party apps , no only reboot into safe mode is only way but if you can monitor for awhile try it .

I also have the issue of the volume dropping to an annoyingly low volume sometime in the afternoon every day. I thought maybe it was Tasker not resetting it properly, but now I'm not convinced that's the case

Try safe mode if still happening.
I was able to keep safe mode on long enough that after rebotting the phone in safe mode, auto-rotate stopped working after about 5 minutes. So that eliminates a wonky app I'm guessing and it must be an issue with one of my sendors or some other hardware issue?

Yeah definitely not a app causing this , so leaves either factory reset or contact Google

There's a thread on google support I'm following with folks in my situation where the accelerometer stops working after restarting the phone. Weird that it auto-rotates fine in Youtube, but no other apps including Google photos.

This happened after last update ? So maybe a factory reset or next update might fix again.
Do you get the little icon when you slowly wrote your phone for auto rotate ?

No icon when auto-rotate is working right after restarting the phone. I downloaded an accelerometer callibration app. I said it calibrated the accelerometer which I could only do after retarting the phone because that's the only time the accelerometer works. After callibration, instead of auto-rotate working for 5 min, it worked for about 30min. But then went back to not working. I'll report back after I install the next update. (tonight)

Ok ..

It's actually worse than I thought. After reviewing Google support threads, my issue with other pixel owners involves other sensor failures. So I rebooted. Again did the sensor testing. All sensors working. Within 5min, on cue, auto rotate stopped working. I then did a sensor test. In addition to the accelerometer not working, the compass and gyroscope sensors stop working. This behavior is similar to other pixel owners in that multiple sensors fail at some point after restarting. I suspect that my issue with the volume dropping to near inaudible is also related.

People have tried that only for the issue to return. I don't know what I'm missing with a defective gyroscope and compass sensor. I can live without the accelerometer if that controls auto rotate as I found an app that can force rotate
