Auto turn off after power loss and turn on with power?

I am trying to help a friend install a tablet of his into his dash to play music and such with. We would rather not have the tablet always on and risk it running out of power at times, so I was looking for a way to have it turn off after the car is turned off for a bit and turn back on when the car is on. Is there any way to do this, with or without root? Any info would be very helpful.
