Interesting -- on some phones, a screen protector that covers the proximity sensor might inappropriately activate that sensor, although if that were the case, the screen should immediately go dark on a call, rather than staying on for a minute. When I'm on a call, the screen goes dark after one minute. I'll have to wait until I call somebody to check this further.
I installed a screen protector exactly as its instructions told me. It's a plastic one rather than a glass protector. I was very careful during the installation.
When I look at it today it lies flat and covers the screen completely, and the edges are not bunched up, folded under, or crooked.
Still, it may be worth testing it with the screen protector removed. Alternatively, try this app to test your proximity sensor. If nothing is blocking it, it should read "5 cm", but if something is blocking it, it'll read "0 cm" (I tested on my Pixel Fold). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.andr7e.sensortest
