Aux input vs. Bluetooth handsfree

I'm trying to figure out if this is an Android issue or one that's specific to the Epic... Basically, when I'm in my car and have my Epic plugged into the Aux input (for whatever audio app), and a call comes in, the phone stays connected via Aux rather than switching to the Bluetooth handsfree that's configured. If I unplug the Aux connection, then Bluetooth picks up.

How I imagine it working is how it works on my Pre: listen to an audio app over Aux, call comes in, audio app pauses and phone picks up over Bluetooth, call ends, audio app starts up again and connection goes back to Aux. Seamless.

So, is this an Android thing, a 2.1 thing, an Epic thing, or some combination? Because it's certainly not acceptable.

not sure..
I use dk28 w/ midnight rom and my bluetooth will play to my pioneer deck over its bluetooth connection.
I get a call, music stops, deck switches to the call, and i can answer. and talk on the bluetooth that runs thru the deck.

i hangup and the pandora or whatever i was listening to resumes.

If your car has bluetooth input for audio go to bluetooth settings.
In my case my car is listed as "Pioneer BT unit2"
So i do a long press on it in bluetooth settings and then select options. Then select the boxes for "Phone" and "Media".

My car now gets my calls and music seamlessly.
Not sure if you are using a bluetooth headset or the deck for your calls but if your deck has bluetooth id give this a try.

I have the same issue. I don't think it's an Android thing because the HTC Evo which runs 2.2 does not have this problem. I am hoping it is just a 2.1 thing and it will get fixed with 2.2 because this problem is very annoying.

Unfortunately, from what I'm seeing elsewhere, it's not yet been fixed in the leaked Froyo build and I'm not seeing signs that it's even being worked on. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised, though.

Here are two links I've found that shed some light and also offer some potential solutions (neither of which I've had a chance to try yet):

Issue 11372 - android - Cannot use bluetooth handsfree with 3.5mm audio jack connected - Project Hosting on Google Code

[GPL] epicBT - Call Audio Router ( Epic4G ) - bluetooth/wired conflict hotfix - 11/26 - xda-developers

I don't want to root so I guess i'm out of luck unless Samsung fixes this. :(

bluetooth problems seem more common in Froyo ROMS so far, with me at least (Truly Epic 1.2 and Quantum 2.5 and 2.7) That being said, Froyo is worth it, for apps2SD and for an OS that doesn't look like it was made in high school computer class on TRS-80's. But I'm not opinionated....

I don't use bluetooth, but just leave the aux plugged into my stereo. when a call comes in, the phone picks up the conversation just fine without bluetooth

I'd say that would work, except one of the benefits of Bluetooth handsfree is that I don't have to look at or touch the phone to pick up a call. I just hit the button on my steering wheel.

With your approach, I'm assuming that you have to at least glance at the phone and answer it. I don't know about you, but my phone can be in any number of places in my car--on the passenger seat, in a cubby, sometimes in my pocket if it's not plugged into AUX, etc. So, I have to find it and then manually answer it if I'm not using Bluetooth, which mitigates the safety advantages.

No, I'm pretty sure this is something that just needs to be fixed.

Also, I gave the AUX-plug-only idea a try and my wife complained that she could hear herself talk from the other end and that it was "quite annoying." That's wife-speak for "never do that again."

Well, it looks like EC05 didn't resolve this issue. Remains true that when I'm plugged into AUX in my car and receive a call, the audio doesn't switch to Bluetooth. The only way to resolve this is to unplug from AUX, at which point Bluetooth picks up.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
