In "Setting> Applications>Running services" an info bar at the bottom will report soomething like
"Other 52Mb in 4 Avail:204MB+86MB in 13"

What do these mean? How does one parse this information?

Well my guess is that there 52 Meg used by 4 services which are not shown in that screen - android internals that you can't shut down.

You have 204 meg of memory going unused.
You have 86 meg of memory that can be uses when memory gets short by paging out 13 apps that are running.

This is not unlike the info available on a "top" display on any Linux/unix system.

In your case you have a boatload of memory going unused.

Cool. Thanks. I've got about 60 apps installed running launcherpro on top of stock froyo 2.2.1 on an ATT nexus one. I use the "move to SD card" option from the "applications" page on everything that allows it. I guess it's worth going through trouble of checking each one. I recall months ago before froyo I had more like 75MB free not 204.
