Avoid mass notifications

Hey there. I'd on know why a lot of people write too many instant messages for saying only one thing. Hahaha

Is there a way to avoid getting notified for each instant message and only get notified once if someone writes for example 5 messages at the same time?

3rd party messaging apps might have that option, but most stock ones don't. Hangouts doesn't have that, either.

Actually, Hangouts DOES have a "snooze" feature. Pull down on the notification shade after 2 messages from the same person and you get a snooze button. Now, that won't help if the app is on the screen already but if you're not interested in opening the app right away you can snooze those.

I've seen it but I'm having a hard time duplicating it without someone else to test with.

Yeah, but that's a snooze button... OP wants a single notification option. GMail has this, don't know why Hangouts doesn't. Most messaging apps don't have it, though, so I guess they want you to know when someone's nagging you
