Wow! That sucks. Pretty unbelievable but sucks either way...

Wow, crazy weird, must have been like an opera singer breaking glass with her voice.

Somebody might have been sat on it without you noticing it.

heat can cause the battery to swell and crack the screen/back. that's the problem with built-in batteries. happened on my iPhone 3G (cracked plastic back) and my wife's Motorola Razor (cracked screen).

My brother had his note 3 laying on the night stand by his bed and when he went to pick it up the screen was shattered. Never dropped, nothing set on it, nothing. Of course T-Mobile thought he was crazy and he had to pay the insurance deductable but at least he did have insurance. He swears though that it was fine when he set it down and when he picked it up it was shattered. He lives alone.

How would it overheat just sitting there?

Glass can suffer from stress fractures. I've seen it happen on car windshields sometimes. The glass is installed and for some reason there is a little more pressure in one spot and with just the right situation..... pop......crack!

I believe the sequence is: snap, crackle...pop. ;)

Totally different. Windshields Crack because the frame of the car twists and flexes under stress, then it goes back to its original shape. The windshield is also part of the structure of the car. If the car flips over on its roof, the windshield helps prevent the roof from caving in.

The glass on the Note 5 is not part of the structure.
