Back-lighting Control for Buttom Buttons

Since the latest Fascinate update, the back-lighting for the bottom buttons (Menu, Home, Back, & Search) are now tied to the screen and stay illuminated longer than they did in the past. This is very annoying and most likely a factor of the complainers who could not remember what button was what, the day after they received their phones. I do not need this, and find it annoying especially when watching a video, needless to say it just wastes more battery power.

So, does anyone know how to adjust the timeout for the back-lighting for these buttons?

I too find the new backlight settings annoying. If I could, I'd be happier with them being disabled all together. When I use the phone at night, they totally overpower the screen and I end up having to hold the phone awkwardly just to I can block the view of the buttons with my hand.

I like the fact that they stay on with the screen now, but I can understand how it could be annoying to a lot of people as well. Unfortunately, there's no way to change it. It'd be nice if there was a separate setting for them.

Hmm. Sometimes mine stay on all night in the cradle. I think they are supposed to go off.

I like having them stay on with the screen. The problem I have is that they don't match the brightness on the screen. So in low light, they remain super bright!

Wouldn't be so bad if they stayed off with the screen dim in desk cradle mode instead of going off for a little while and then coming back on when it went into screen saver mode. I've started using alarm clock plus which is like a more customizable version of the AOSP desk clock and the lights actually stay off.
