Back to stock?

So, I'm sure there's an answer for this, but I'm having trouble finding it--do I need to go back to stock 2.1 to get the Froyo update?

If you didn't change the bootloader (the leaked ota does this) the update may break root. To be safe I downgrade to stock, it's way too easy to root now.
