Background audio skips after Android 9 update

I have the Note 9 on Verizon.
After I allowed the android system update for 9.0/Pie I've had several issues.
The most annoying one is that my background audio skips often.
It usually starts to happen after I answer a call and after the call ends and the audio resumes.
I'm usually using bluetooth audio and it occurs whether I'm connected to headphones or a car stereo.

If I bring the app back pob the screen, be it YouTube or Plex etc., the audio is good again.

If I switch to another app or turn off the screen the audio will start skipping after 15 seconds or so.

I have to either close all the apps abs reopen the audio app to get it top play normally in the background or restart the phone.
But it seems that after I receive a call or something the audio problem returns.

The other issue I've had since android 9 is my Sony camera app can no longer connect to my Sony cameras to run the smart remote or receive photos.
I have to launch the app then go to wifi and manually connect to the phone's wifi then back to the app before the camera times out the connection.

That and the camera buttons being so different have made the update to android 9 quite crappy. :-/

I know what the first advice will be.
"Did you do a factory reset after the update?"

No. Not yet.
I used to dip that regularly but it's a pain in the *** when you have to set up Samsung Pay and other high security apps again.

The audio skipping has plagued me the entire time I typed this post.
If I switch apps to the music app then back here I get about 15 to 30 seconds of normal audio then the constant skipping returns.
This sucks.

OK.
I have never seen that setting.
I looked and indeed Amazon Music, Plex and OG Yoputube apps were all enabled for battery optimization.

I will try that change and let you know later if it did the trick.

It looks like that did the trick.
Wow. That's crazy that doing a system update would totally screw up the playback of your audio apps by putting them in some battery management mode leaving you having to figure out what changed.

Now if I could get my Sony play memories app to work as it did before the update.
