Background Data Problem

Have no idea what has happened to my wife's GN but it suddenly started uploading massive amounts of background data and continues to do so unless I disable background data.

The system is telling me it's the email app but can't find what the system is uploading.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The 850 Megs upload was over a 4 - 5 hr period with nothing apparently running

I have a similar problem with the "Android OS" process... unfortunately, searching for "android os background data" pulls up everything under the sun, and nothing relevant...

really annoying as I can access the option to 'disable background data (unless on wifi)' for any other app, just not the "android os" process...

had the problem in ics 4.0.1 and it's still here in team kang's 4.0.3...
