Backing Up/Transferring Old Text Messages

I recently switched to a new phone and successfully transferred all of the images stored in it to my new phone. What I have NOT done yet, though, is transfer all of my old text messages to it. I would like to do so, though, especially as I want to use that old phone for other purposes (basically just as a little computer connected to my wifi system), but it has so many problems now that I will need to do a factory reset first. So, my question is, is it possible to back up just the phone's history of text messages? I did, by the way, tap the little three dots at the top-right of the screen on the chat app, but didn't see an option for that. Thank you.

Just one quick but important follow-up on this. I've tried using this app, and it seems to prefer that I back the files up to Dropbox or another online service, but the problem with that is that my phone's copy of Chrome is essentially broken (after a few seconds of opening it, I get a "Chrome keeps stopping" error message). As I said in my original post, this phone's OS is apparently badly damaged and that's why I want to do the factory reset in the first place.

If there's no way to upload to Dropbox, I figure that the only option is to just back the files up to my phone itself and then transfer them elsewhere (my desktop of external hard drive or whatever). Does anyone here know, though, where in my phone it stores these files?

It would be in your file manager under that name the file or try back up to Google drive

Actually, I still couldn't find it in the phone's file manager, but I tried the Google Drive option and that one worked! I had just assumed that like Dropbox that would require going through Chrome (which, again, is crashing continually), but apparently not. Good tip! Thanks.
