Welcome to the forums.
A good counter question is: What do you want to back up? Apps? Text messages? The ROM?

All of it , would the term be call The ROM ? Or better yet what should I back up in case of a malfunctions on my cell ? Its all new to me , In terms I could understand with a Windows Operating system one would back up their hard drive to maybe external drive . So what does one do with cell phones ? Thanks

To back up the ROM, you need to install a custom recovery, like ClockworkMod or TWRP.

You can use Helium to back up apps and data. You can transfer photos and documents to your PC or to a cloud account. Googlesyncs your contacts and calendar events. Worst case senerio, you have to re-install apps from the play store and start with a clean slate.

You need to be rooted to do complete backups of your phone, if you rootTitanium Backup is highly rated as a back up app

I don't want to change things were it may cause problems later on . I just want a app that will back up my data and my paid apps . Or you tell me what do people if one by chance does a system reset back to factory setting , what happens with their paid apps ?

Your paid apps you can reinstall from the playstore without having to purchase them again. The playstore remembers what you bought. In the playstore there is a my apps section that keeps track of everything you've installed both paid and free.

Good to know , thank you ... Man, I got a lot to learn lol

In regards to your previous question, you need to be rooted to use Titanium Backup. The app does not root your phone.

You?re getting bits and pieces of information from everyone. I?m going to try to consolidate so hopefully you?ll find this easier to understand.

Nandroid backup
This is a backup of your ROM, apps, and app data. If you want to think of this in PC terms, imagine you have Windows and all your applications on your C:\ drive. All your other files (media, photos, documents, etc) are on your D:\ drive (i.e., separate partitions, could be separate physical drives, but not necessarily).
A Nandroid backup would be a flashable drive image of your C:\ drive.
A Nandroid backup is made via a custom recovery such as Clockworkmod. If you?re new to Android, this is probably too advanced for you. Do some reading about custom recoveries before diving in.

Titanium Backup
This is probably the most comprehensive backup app available. But it?s not for noobs since it requires root access and the UI isn?t the most user friendly. But if put in the right hands, it?s a very powerful tool. It allows backing up of your apps, app data, call history, sms history and WIFI access points. Again, if you're new to Android, this is probably too advanced for you. Do some reading about root access before diving in.

Helium
This is a popular backup app that?s relatively new to the scene. I?ve personally not tried it because I?m a Titanium Backup user. But from what I?ve seen in reviews and forums, it does a good job backing up apps and app data. But it?s very slow when backing up or restoring. But it doesn?t require root and is more noob-friendly.

Other files
Backing up your other files is easy. Just save them elsewhere. Save them to the cloud or connect your USB cable and save them to your PC.

Other things to note:
It?s not necessary to backup your contacts if you sync them with Google. They?ll be restored automatically if you wipe and then sign in again.
Some third party launchers (e.g., Apex and Nova) allows you to backup your homescreen configuration which you can restore later. But this is more of a per-app feature.
Restoring app data via Titanium Backup or Helium is sometimes problematic especially if the app uses push notifications.
Restoring system apps and data is not recommended.
You won?t have to pay again for apps/media that you?ve paid for even if you factory reset/wipe.
Under Settings-Backup&Reset, if you toggle on ?Back up my data? and ?Automatic restore? and then wipe your device, your apps will be automatically downloaded and installed upon sign-in. Going forward, expect this feature to include app data. But for now, it only restores the apps themselves.

Wugz root toolkit does a good full backup
