Bad 4G signal after 4.2.2 update.

Hello,

I have the Verizon Galaxy Nexus. Recently it was updated to 4.2.2 ( I am not using any roms). After the update the 4G signal is drastically worst than before the update. I live in So Cal area and where I used to get 4 bars on 4G signal I now get 2 bars at best. Sometimes I get 3G signal with 2 or no bars at all. I have unlimited data plan and should not be throttled. I called Verizon and they confirmed there is no throttling.

Just wondering if anyone with Verizon Galaxy Nexus noticed the 4G signal degradation after updating to 4.2.2 and if yes what can be done about it.

yes, there are threads on it. For me, it isn't an actual speed problem - speeds are the same when I do speedtests. The problem is they changed how they report the signal strength in bars. Same speed, different number of bars.

To know if that is the case for you, you would have to run speedtests in 4.2.2 and then revert back to 4.1.1 and do the speedtests again unless you already know what speeds you were getting on 4.1.1.

I ran the test comparing my Galaxy Nexus and Droid Razr. Droid Razr on 4.1.2. I had both phones in my possession. I ran the Speed Test on both phones at the same time. Download speed were consistently better on Razr. On average my phone was getting 10Mb and Razr gets 16Mb.

I uploaded some pictures. First picture shows the each phone info and the second picture shows the Speed Test results.

That's not a valid comparison because the Razr has a better radio than the GNex has. The Razr on 4.1.1 probably gets better speeds compared to a GNex on 4.1.1. To know whether the problem is 4.2.2 on the GNex, have to run the tests on the same device in the same location at approximately same time of day using the same speedtest server with only difference being 4.1.1 vs. 4.2.2.
