Well i decided to try Handcent and shortly after install my battery was down to like 70% from 90% (within approx 30-40 minutes). After the Gingerbread update my battery life has been awesome. With a full charge overnight I would still have 70-80% at around 7:00pm. Now since the Handcent install and shortly after uninstall I am down to 50% at 4:39pm after a full charge at noon. Anyone have any ideas? I have pulled the battery and restarted 3 times but the battery just keeps draining. Only thing that has changed was Handcent, It wasn't this bad before the update. Thanks for any advise.

thats odd i have been using handcent since my N1 and never had battery drain, even on my inspire my battery drain isnt any different with it vs not. Did you disable notifications for the standard messaging program? i know that sometimes will drain if you have notifications for both.

Yes I did and what is strange is I still have the battery drain after uninstalling it. I have no idea what happened. But I have gone from unplugging my phone at like 6am when I get up and having 60-70% battery left around 8-9pm to having to charge it twice a day. I was just checking facebook for 2-3minutes and watched the battery drop 20%. I just want my old battery back...lol

I haven't used handcent, but had a similar battery drain issue that suddenly started happening. My battery life has been great since Gingerbread, but suddenly was dropping fast enough to watch it on the battery monitor. I used the battery usage feature under settings -> about phone -> battery and found that the android dialer function was using more battery than the display. I had to turn off the quick boot feature under settings -> power and shut down the phone, let it set for a few minutes, then turn it on and wait for the really long version of the boot up to get the dialer process un-hung.

I would definitely check the battery usage and see what it using up most of your power (it should be the display by a large margin).

Thanks for the replies, I cannot use the battery calibration from the market as I am not rooted. I checked and Android Dialer is only using like 10% Display is 49%. I did try shutting off Fast Boot and restarting but it did not seem to help. Would a Factory Data Reset help? Or maybe download the Gingerbread update from HTC and do it that way for a complete wipe and install? Thanks again for the advice.

I have been having the same issue for the past 3 months. I did a factory reset after my phone wouln't hold a charge longer than an hour. It didn't help much. I didn't install Handcent, never heard of it, but I do notice a major drop in battery after a couple of minutes with a few apps. I am thinking maybe I should buy a new OEM battery and see how that goes. I've had my EVO 4G since it came out and it just started acting like this a couple of months ago.

Are you using the Pop-up notifications from handcent? If you have pop-up and unlock the device enabled it will cause your phone to wake from sleep and drain the battery if you don't respond in a timely manner. This is the main reason I switched to GoSMS.

BATTERY DRAIN PROBLEM POSSIBLE SOLUTION
I have swapped my Inspire at the ATT support center 4 times in the last 3 weeks. It started as a bizarre behavior. When I plugged it in to charge, it actually discharged the battery. DIdn't matter if it was AC Adaptor or direct to computer. Got a new phone.

worked for one day, then did the same thing.Got a new phone.
By this time I suspected it was the micro-usb port on the phone, it's a terrible plug to use for this purpose. Well I think I was proven right, plugged the power cord in, phone shut down instantly.

Each time I took it to AT&T they were able to duplicate it with their cables.
Got new phone

Plug it in as rarely as possible (to computer only). Bought batteries and swap them usually once a day. AT&T was actually nice and helpful, I asked them for spare battery covers since It doesn't feel like the battery cove was designed to be opened a lot. They handed me 3 of them no charge. I just couldn't deal with re-loading everything on myphone again.

SO FOR ALL THE BATTERY AND WEIRD PROBLEMS YOU ARE HAVING, SEE IF THEY RELATE TO PLUGGING THE USB CABLE IN. I AM CONVINCED (AS WERE THE AT&T FOLKS) THAT A SHORT IS DEVELOPING IN THAT PLUG OVER TIME.
HOPE THIS HELPS.
