Had great batt life but now it sucks. Gsam shows 74% consumed by apps with screen only 23% consumed. And of the apps... Android system 17% and android OS 16%.

Are these normal? I always thought screen was biggest consumer. Location off. Timout minimal. Brightness auto. Sync minimal. 3 hrs OST at best.

Download the App "Snapdragon Battery Guru" the developers of the app created the processor in android devices I can go 3 days without a charge playing games and phone calls, and GPS, it truly works wonders. Hope it works for you.

Snapdragon Battery Guru is a great concept, but it's a battery hog itself.

74% used by apps with only 23% screen means that a lot of apps are running in the background. That's normal if you added an email account that already has a lot of email in it, or you're updating a lot of apps automatically, but if not, find out what's running and fix that problem. (Leaving something like Facebook running, even though the screen is off, will eat your battery for lunch.)

I'm having the same issue since the last system update, and I've posted about it here, but not really any luck:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-one-m8/467004-poor-battery-life-kernel-os-sucking-battery.html

Before the update, I could easily go 16 hours with heavy usage and still have battery left. Now, there's some days where I can't even go 5 hours without it being completely dead. Same issue with you, the Android System and Kernel are using the most battery, where before the update the screen was the biggest battery hog. I've been hearing rumours of another system update that should be coming shortly after the first of the year. I'm going to wait for that and see if it helps. If it doesn't, I'm taking the phone in for a replacement. Some people have said that perhaps the battery itself is going bad, but I don't think so. With Gsam showing a complete drain from the android system, that shows that the problem is the software itself and not the battery.

I did not know that its a battery hog, my apologies for the mis-information, it seems to save a LOT of battery on my phone. I know my phone lasts longer with it. That's for sure

Reboot in Save Mode (google it) and see what the results are. I had an issue with recently installed apps and I had to remove anything streaming. I even removed gsam which *might have been an issue.

If the battery life returns to 'normal' then open Play Store>My Apps>All and the list should be in order of latest to earliest. Remove the ones installed since the issue started.
