Bad news about ICS for the Thunderbolt

I wouldn't be surprised either considering they scrapped ICS for the Desire HD which is very similar to the Thunderbolt. Regardless, it makes no difference to me as it works very well on Gingerbread. Frankly, even if they do release ICS, I have no intentions of messing with it. I even went so far recently as to flash back to older software from Dec. 2011 to restore hyperlink functionality the Apple/HTC war has taken away, then root to block OTA's. I'll look for a new version of Android on a future phone (whenever that need arises). :)

Chrome currently on works on android 4.0 and above.

at first, I was really hyped about ICS. but it's taking so long, I don't even care if they ever release it. my phone has be seriously doing some really stupid crap since the last update, so I'm afraid of anything else OTA anyway. if they are this apprehensive about releasing it, then maybe that should give us a clue. I'm rooting my tbolt, poop on this action!!!

it's just speculation and hearsay. until it comes from HTC's mouth, there's really no credit to these articles.

Exactly!

Yep, my phone experienced similar issues after the last OTA, so I rooted as well. My Bolt's back to working extremely well again thanks to all of the incredible developers.

Yup. The more people that get on these forums bashing htc for something htc never said the less likely Ics will come. Why would htc spend the money to build a update it they clearly can tell most thunderbolt owners are not expecting it? Once htc says no thunderbolt Ics then I can fully understand everyone complaining, and rightfully so. Until then I won't be giving htc any slight hint that I'm not fully 100% expecting the Ics that was promised.

I'm not expecting it, so complain I won't. but I may be in the minority. ;)

Its been mentioned quite a few times now that it will happen, unfortunately as we have seen with any carrier controlled updates the anticipated time frame of update can vary..

It's not so much speculation, but a logical conclusion considering how similar the Thunderbolt is to the Desire HD. The only real difference between the two are the radios (Thunderbolt: CDMA/LTE, Desire HD: GSM), and the Desire HD lacks a front facing camera. Everything else is virtually the same.

From the article linked to above:

"The decision is apparently in the hands of HTC at this point and we assume that means that the software is currently in testing. It was the testing of ICS on the HTC Desire HD that led to the device’s Ice Cream Sandwich getting cancelled and it’s possible that HTC will deem to software unfit for the ThunderBolt as well.

This is certainly possible considering both device share similar hardware – including 768MB of RAM and a single-core processor – something that originally led us to believe that the ThunderBolt update was in danger of not rolling out at all.

So, while nothing is set in stone, it appears that the ThunderBolt’s update is definitely in trouble and while there appears to be a little hope to cling on to, owners should start preparing to either root their device or endure a permanent life on Android 2.3 Gingerbread."

Personally, I'm going to call it now; no ICS for the Thunderbolt.

At this point I don't care if they release it or not. I just wish that a leak from the testing made its way to one of the devs. Only people who really care about ICS coming to the Thunderbolt , was going to use a custom Rom anyways.

That brings up another thing: where are the ICS leaks (typically a full RUU)? Usually we would have seen at least one by now.

i've been having 4G & 3G drop for no reason lately. wonder if its from the latest OTA?? thinking about rooting this weekend.

I wish I could tell you that the latest OTA is the definitive reason for the data drops we all seem to be experiencing, but it still happens to me from time to time. However, I do think it's better now that I've gone back to the .605.9 radios. I put off rooting for a long time simply cause I was thrilled with the phone running stock, but I'm having a lot of fun trying out different roms and learning more about my phone. For instance, I'm running an ICS/JB themed rom right now that gives my phone the look and feel of the newest OS, and I can barely tell the difference between my phone and my tablet that's actually running ICS.

HTC has already given the update to Verizon, which means they have tested and signed off on it.
