Well couldn't wait to receive my new moto x pure edition Tue, but after a day and a half I think its going back. First impression of battery wasn't good but I figured I would give it a few more days but after coming to work tonight my minds made up its going back. I work in a huge metal building with a control room in the center so the reception is very bad. With the HTC m8 it was OK, the s5 was just a hair worse then the HTC but the moto x I have nothing. I always had good luck and thought Motorola had the best signals. I guess they have really went down hill. Very very disappointed in this phone between the small battery, iffy camera and bad reception.

I've found my Moto X 2014 to be about on par with my 2013, which had really good signal. Marginally better than my wife's Galaxy S5, miles better than my old LG Optimus G Pro. I live in Maine, so there are a few areas even along my commute near the Interstate where signal from all carriers gets iffy.

That is surprising as my experience with the 2013 and 2014 X reception has been nothing but superlative compared to any other device I've used.

Do you have LTE signal at work and are you using ATT towers? If so, you might want to check to see what LTE band you have there. I don't know if Moto has turned band 5 on yet on the moto x. They did not have it activated at launch. You can check which band you are on by using a phone which can get lte and download "LTE Discovery" app from the playstore.

What's up 68bowtie,
Have you compared the actual dbm #s as far as the reception goes? Go to settings/about phone/status and compare the numbers. The reason I bring this up is that, at least with my Nexus 6 running lollipop, I found the indicator might show 0 bars while my G3 would be showing 2 or 3 with the same dbm.
In my experience, stock Android does tend to under-report it's reception is compared to others.

I'm running the network signal app so i can compare. I'm in a steel building and my control room is right in the middle so the reception is touch and go. As soon as i step out off the control room i have lte. We have a us cellular repeater on the roof so ppl with cdma get good reception. I compared the dbm numbers and there off the chart on the moto x. I tried all night to get a phone call out or even get on the internet, but nothing. Even at my house its around 110-115 and the s5 is 98-102. I really wanted to like this phone. I had the orginal x and i thought was a good phone.

If you haven't already, go to Setting > Wireless & networks > More > Cellular Networks > Preferred Network Type and change it from Global to LTE/CDMA. This could help both network signal and battery usage.

I downloaded the 4g switcher and tried that also.

I get better reception with my Moto X in more places than I ever did with my iPhone 5S or Note 3. I thought the Note 3 would best the X for sure.
