So looking at the latest offering of new phones that are essentially 'sealed'. No Micro SD , no Removable Battery* (S6 Argument).
A) Expandability: The lack of MIcroSD disturbs me. Sure rely on the cloud?.... Google gives you 15Gb/17Gb of storage . Im almost to capacity with pictures.. OK you have a 32Gb device minus the OS leaving you with lets say 25Gb of storage(pure speculation here). Then you are left over with more than you can store online w/ google at least. Of course like some power users I load up a bunch of movies/mp3s to watch/listen when I need to. Yes I know there are cloud options out there (M$ One Drive, Box, Copy) I use them also as backups.
B) Recoverability: Using backup software (Titanitum Pro) . How would accomplish this w/o a SD Card. If the phone dies it dies.. You lose all your config unless you cloud your backups... Once in a blue-moon i'd have to do a reset on my phone and reload everything. So would I have to save my backup outside of my phone every time I do a backup? It would kind of suck having to run to a PC to do a recovery. Yes I know you can cloud-download it. Just isnt the same time me.
C) Battery: Im still rocking a Day 1 Galaxy S3 . I cycle through my phones slower than most folks. Its rooted and I do alot of tethering via my VZW unlimited plan. I finally replaced my battery in December because I saw how decimated throughout the day. One time it dropped 6% in the span of a quick conversation. I've replaced it and life goes on. NO massive troubleshooting or resetting my phone in HOPES it would fix my issue. Unless these newer batteries are incredibly magical I'll bite. Whats w/ the Galaxy S6 giving us some smaller capacity than previous models. Again if its very efficient I'll bite. Non removable batteries scare the hell out of it. It'll just force me to cycle through phones faster. I have 1 Japanese phone w/ a non-removable battery (Sharp SH-01F 32Gb w/ 64Gb MicroSD). It has 3000mAh life and w/ that specific screen its CRAZY efficient. I can go 2 days w/o re-charging and this is 1+ year old techology. I dont feel that our american brands offer anywhere this (except Droid Turbo) but alas, no microSD.
These devices from Google and other Manufacturers worry me. Taking away choices as I see these phones evolving ever closer to an IPhone. I figured this is what made this/US different. Never having to run to a PC to do recovery or other things. I do have a work iphone which is giving me major issues and it seems like the only way to recover is to run to my work laptop in order to restore it. Assuming that fixes my issue.
I havent been reading too much online but am I the only one who is bugged by what I've typed?
Unless there is some miraculous way/reason that I could function w/o a micro-SD then I'll buy a 64/128Gb S6 or other variant.
Right now My choices are in hopes of a HTC One M9 or LG G4. It seems like the last 2 holdouts w/ MicroSD.
I feel like </End Rant>...
Thanks for reading and I welcome all comments. I wanted to post this directly to the Mods/folks in charge but I figure it might make a good discussion amongst us consumers.
