Does your EB13 kernels work on other ROMs? I'm on midNIGHT right now and was curious. I might try your ROM when I'm ready to upgrade, but I just upgraded a week ago and it's a pain, so I'd love to flash an updated kernel if it should be compatible... can you confirm? Thx

Only question is do I flash rom then flash kernel or is the kernel in the rom? 2.1 rom has 2.1 kernel?

Baked Snack kernels should work for any ROM that does not depend on the kernel for root (for example, Syndicate would not work). Bonzai (and therefore midNIGHT) should work as Mammon has the ROM rooted, not the kernel.

Only question is do I flash rom then flash kernel or is the kernel in the rom? 2.1 rom has 2.1 kernel?

Kernel is included with the ROM. Flash once.

He has to build a new kernel based on the new EC05 source, so no. You won't see a release right away but he did say it's not far off.

Hi Hero,

I flashed 2.2 and its great but I also flashed the linpack kernel. Was I supposed to do that? Voodoo is telling me that my kernel doesn't support control. How do I fix that?

I did it by just installing the eb13-deodexed-cwm combo package through Odin then flashing ACE. Pretty sure wiping it again wouldn't help me re-root lol.

You can either use the stand-alone Linkpack kernel from post #1, or if you want to use the kernel that's baked into the ROM you can use this procedure to extract and flash the ROM kernel. It's a procedure I wrote back in the Eclair days, but it's still valid as it's not dependent on OS version.

Whole process went quick and smooth :). I'm succesfully running rooted on Baked Kernel 2.1 with SRF. So far the only hangup I've seen is that Overclock Widget can't seem to properly detect CPU frequencies any more. It does correctly clock it up and down from 100mhz to 1.28ghz, but you can only control it through the sliders (which don't go past 1.2ghz) because the frequencies will no longer show up in the advanced settings. It doesn't seem to pose any real issue, just an annoyance.

First thing I noticed is that it does indeed seem to boot up quicker. Not by a lot, but its there. In actual use I haven't seen much improvement at least in the first couple minutes. Maybe just a hair more responsive but nothing to write home about. I'll use it through tonight and tomorrow and see how battery life is and how it performs over a longer time. Benchmark scores did drop quite significantly as expected. One thing I noticed though: he warns that the undervolting can make it lag coming from sleep as can be expected, however mine actually wakes up MUCH faster than it did with the Twilight kernel packaged with SRF, which makes me think the undervolting may actually be less aggressive, so we'll have to see if battery life while asleep winds up actually being worse.

Ok it hasn't been very long but I wanted to throw a quick update out. The overclock widget issue appears to have fixed itself: I love whan that happens. With some more playing around, scrolling through homescreens and especially the app drawer do have a minor, but noticable improvement in speed, smoothness, and responsiveness. Its not a big improvement, but it does add up. The biggest change is games. Framerates are WAY improved. Load times are a bit better as well. Its a lot of small improvements (and one fairly big one) that seem to add up to a very smooth experience.

A note about quadrant: my score dropped like 300 points. Whatever. But what matters is that watching the framerate counter, I average 5-10 fps higher throughout the tests depending on which part its at. It backs up the in-game observations that GPU performance seems much improved. I locked the phone at 1.28ghz and put it through its paces for a while. It held up just fine and stable so I have no doubts it can handle the O/C long term considering it won't actually go that high most of the time. Thus far I'm very pleased with this kernel; its worth the effort of extracting it from the ROM and re-rooting. I'll report back tomorrow night with some longer term observations of battery life, stability, etc. but so far I like what I'm seeing.
