Ballistic HC case question.

I've had my ballistic hc case for a few days now and i love it and all but it seems (IMO) that it looks and feels etter w/o the extra layer of rubber on it..its just too bulky,dont get me wrong,i love that its protected,i had an otterbox deffender but it seemed this one gave more protection and looked better. I like having it out of the extra rubber part but i hate dust and put it back on once and a while. I was wondering if anyone would suggest cutting off the dust protection flaps on the rubber part and just put them on the case w/o the rubber layer.? Has anyone done this.?
