Sounds crazy but I need suggestions for a basic phone that can be bought for cheap and activated on a Verizon post paid account with no data access. Bonus points for a QWERTY keyboard and links....

There's a nice little LG flip-phone on Verizon for $49 or $2 /month. I was thinking of getting it for my wife.

Yeahhhh I saw that one but was really hoping for one with a keyboard because it will primarily be used for texting. I have a vacant line on my account that I'm paying for data access for that I really need to get a basic phone on to cut that data access fee out.

Unless you go way back, you aren't going to find a flip/dumb phone with a keyboard.

Well I know that, and I'm okay with that as long as it works.

Also I've been told two different things via Verizon customer service. One rep told me it doesn't matter if I buy a prepaid or postpaid device, and one rep told me I have to buy one specific to postpaid.

Wtf.

I haven't tried a basic phone, but Verizon wouldn't activate a prepaid smartphone on my line. I had to use an active sim from another device. Basic phones are not 4GLTE so you are stuck with getting Verizon to activate.

Yeah I'm thinking not buying a prepaid would be best to avoid trouble. Looking to buy from Amazon or Ebay because it's cheaper than Verizon's offerings but most of them are so vague about how they can be activated and I don't wanna buy only to find out it can't be used on a postpaid line without data line access.

I would ask the seller to confirm that it is a post paid device, or capable of being activated on post paid before buying.

I ordered an LG Extravert 2 from an amazon seller with good feedback. It's a phone that's actually currently offered by Verizon so it should be good to go. Over 100 bucks from Verizon paid 60 on Amazon. Specifically stated for postpay so we shall see.

Not sure whether you were able to get your Extravert going, but Verizon has a $50 flip phone for postpaid. ($50 MSRP). The Cosmos 3 is $90 and the Extravert 2 is $110. All are MSRP on the Verizon site.

Yeah I got the Extravert activated no problems.

Only really plan on using it when I go out to the field (military guy) and don't wanna risk damaging my Note 5 so all is good. Saves me a little bit of money because the line was previously being charged smartphone line access.

So the Extravert does not require data? I am looking for the same thing. A phone for an extra line so I can drop data charge.

Nope when I activated it I got a message from Verizon stating my charges for that line went down.
