Battery bug still alive and kicking in Marshmallow

The battery bug is still there in Marshmallow. My phone said it had 15% battery left. Was just about to plug in the charger and it died. Not impressed, surely this should have been sorted out by now?

FWIW, I don't have this issue on my 2014 PE. I can run down to 1% without the phone dying. When it does die though, it really DIES, without doing a proper shutdown. Same behavior on 6.0 and 5.1.

Yeah I'm using a 2014 PE too. I don't let the battery get low most of the time, but every now and again it does and will die with around 15% left. It's a well known bug and should have been sorted long ago. The fact that it still hasn't been fixed in Marshmallow is a bit of a joke as far as I'm concerned

Has it been established for sure that it's a software bug and not a defect in the battery circuitry? Seems like the latter would better explain why some have it and some don't. If it were software, I'd think we'd all have it.

I've seen other people suggest that it's a bug so I'm just going off that. I know what you're saying when you say that we would all have it if it were a software bug, but at the same time I've seen many occasions on this forum where some people are having a certain problem with Android and other people using exactly the same phone and OS aren't, so it seems like some problems can be quite arbitrary

Same here. Two days ago, I plugged my phone in at 50%, and the charge instantly jumped to 100% charged. Of course, my phone died with it still reporting 48% left. I let it die and charged it all the way up while off to recalibrate the battery. Yesterday it died with 8% battery left. Idk what's going on.

Wow! I thought it was bad enough dying at 15%, dying at 48% is taking the ****!

D oyou guys have apps running in the background? that could give a false batter level indication..

Out of curiosity, did you ever try a factory reset? I'm debating doing one.

I haven't seen this behavior myself. I rarely let my phone discharge below 10%, but the few times it has it seems to report the remaining battery life correctly. Are you using the battery saver feature? Not saying it's a cause, just looking for common threads (for what it's worth, I do use it).

No I don't use battery saver. It's very rare I let my battery get low as well, but on some of the few occasions it has gone low it has died with around 15% left

Yes it's been long confirmed that it's a software bug. For many of us it started after the initial lollipop update. It's a heavy topic in the Motorola fprums.

I've done everything known to man to try and sort it out. Factory reset, cache clearing, safe mode boots, clean app installs. Still exists.

Here's the issue. If my phone died at 15%, I can plug it in and reboot. It'll then show 15%, and allow me to use that 15%. But next day it'll die at anywhere from 8-20%. The battery knows its proper capacity, and its also reflected in the battery graph. But the phone will just die. I've dealt with this for nearly a year now..

Here's an example of the battery bug. My phone died at twenty percent (as you can see by the dropoff). I turned it back on, it reported 15%, then 1%, then died, all within a minute. I'm thinking this might be a hardware issue.
