I have had my s4 for around a year. You can see my screenshot of my battery drain since off the charger this morning.
On the other Screenshot is my friends battery usage since off charge nearly two days ago. He has had that phone for a month.
Both are brand new phones from VZW. Both on kit kat.
Granted, I use mine more than his.
But still the battery time is incredibly better with his.
I also included a shot of our batteries side by side. His was made in Malaysia.
One thing that I just thought about is I run a win 8 launcher or even before that I ran stock launcher.
He runs stock launcher..
BUT
He runs it in that simplified mode. I can't think of what it's called.
I wonder if that mode is what causes his screen usage to be low.
Again, he doesn't use his as much as mine but that's incredible batter life on his. He takes pix, texts, gets email and makes phone calls some.
I may put mine in the simple mode, again whatever it's called, and see if that helps.
